Curriculum Vitae

Francesca Perrotta is an Italian conductor who gained recognition for conducting the opening ceremony of Pesaro - Capital of Italian Culture 2024, in the presence of the Italian President Sergio Mattarella, broadcast live on Rai 3. She also conducted the Ministry of Culture’s audition for Pesaro’s candidacy as Italian Capital of Culture in 2022.

On March 10, 2024, by direct invitation from the Quirinale, she conducted the concert for the I Concerti del Quirinale series, broadcast live on Radio3 Rai and Euroradio.

She participated as a speaker at TEDx Siena 2021, held at the Chigiana Academy, with a talk titled "La musica può fare" (Music Can Make a Difference), at the audition for the Ministry of Culture regarding Pesaro's candidacy, presenting the dossier, and at the Chigiana 100 conference in 2023, marking the centenary of the prestigious academy, with a talk titled “Who Needs Art Music?”.

Perrotta has conducted the Orchestra Regionale Filarmonia Veneta, FORM – Orchestra Filarmonica delle Marche, and the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini, and held the position of Music Director of the OSIM Orchestra, affiliated with the "Sistema de Orquestas" of José Antonio Abreu, within the Cubec - Mirella Freni Academy of Belcanto in Modena. She also worked as assistant conductor to Romolo Gessi with the Orchestra Tartini of Trieste.

Currently, she serves as the Music Director of Orchestra Olimpia, an entirely female symphonic ensemble, where she works to promote gender professionalism alongside the dissemination of works by women composers. Under her direction, Orchestra Olimpia has collaborated with prominent soloists and singers, including Anastasiya Petryshak, Haerim Elizabeth Lee, Elena Denisova, Valentina Mastrangelo, and BigMama. She conducted an interview with Marin Alsop for the project “Musica, Maestra!”, and curated the DiClassica podcast, narrated by Valentina Lo Surdo. Among the many artistic activities she has undertaken, the dialogue with the Zohra Orchestra of Kabul, the only all-female orchestra in an Islamic state, stands out. Her collaboration with Zohra and its founder, Ahmad Sarmast, has been featured by Radio3 in the program Momus. In January 2024, Perrotta co-conducted a concert in Pesaro, the only one of its kind in Italy, with Orchestra Olimpia and the Afghan ensemble, broadcast by Radio3 Rai within the program Radio3 Suite.

For her ongoing work with Orchestra Olimpia, in 2024, she was awarded the Giovanni Santi Award – Communicators of Values, given annually to individuals who demonstrate artistic excellence and significant contributions to social and communicative endeavors.

Among the numerous competitions she has participated in, Perrotta was particularly distinguished at the “Progetto Brahms” Competition in 2019, chaired by Donato Renzetti, from which she was selected to conduct the final concert at the Teatro Rossini in Pesaro.

 

Francesca Perrotta holds a degree in Piano Performance with top honors from the Conservatorio “Tito Schipa” in Lecce, where she also completed a lower-level two-year course in Vocal Chamber Music. She furthered her studies at renowned piano academies such as the Pianistic Academy of Pinerolo (TO) and the Ecole Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris. After gaining solid experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist, she studied Orchestral Conducting with Romolo Gessi at the European Conducting Academy in Vicenza, and completed a second-level academic diploma with Manlio Benzi at the Conservatorio Rossini in Pesaro, where she also studied Composition w i t h Lamberto Lugli. Additionally, she has attended masterclasses in conducting with internationally acclaimed conductors, such as Julius Kalmar, Lior Shambadal, Sigmund Thorp, Donato Renzetti, and Marin Alsop.

She earned a Bachelor's degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Salento, writing a thesis on "The Nibelungic Material in Wagner’s Works." Currently, she is pursuing research on the role of gender in contemporary music as part of her PhD in Musical Performance and Interpretation at the Conservatorio Rossini in Pesaro.

Roberta Pandolfi, an emerging Italian pianist, is active both as a soloist and chamber musician, including in the field of contemporary music. For several years, she has collaborated with iconic artists such as Irvine Arditti and Kirill Rodin.

She has performed, among others, at the Herkulessaal in Munich as a soloist with the Kammerphilharmonie Dacapo playing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 Op. 58, at the Liszt Hall of the Liszt Academy in Budapest as a soloist with the Szolnok Symphony Orchestra, in Baku with the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic for the first Azerbaijani performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 5 Op. 55 (broadcast on national TV), at the Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul with the Trio Euroasia (featuring violinist Sarm Kim and cellist Kirill Rodin, Tchaikovsky Competition winner 1986), in Rome with Orchestra Olimpia for the “Concerti del Quirinale” live on Radio3Rai in the presence of Italian President Sergio Mattarella, at the A. Toscanini Auditorium in Turin where she held a lecture-concert on Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 Op. 58 alongside Massimo Bernardini and the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, with Anastasya Petryshak and Orchestra Olimpia for Pesaro 2024 – Italian Capital of Culture, and in duo with Theodosia Ntokou with the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Región de Murcia.

She has also performed for numerous festivals and institutions including: Società dei Concerti di Milano, Bologna Festival, Bologna Modern, Bari Piano Festival, Festival Pianistico Bartolomeo Cristofori, Amici della Musica di Palermo, Rossini Open at Teatro di Lugo, Wörthersee Classics (Klagenfurt Konzerthaus), MDW Vienna, Erhbar Hall Vienna, Festival Entre Quintas (Portugal), Promusica Aguilas (Spain), Festival dei Due Mondi, Amici della Musica di Udine, Divertimento Ensemble, Museo del Novecento, Ferrara Piano Festival, Piano City Milano, Armonie della Sera, Teatro di Orleans (France), Wolfsburg Castle (Germany). She has collaborated with several orchestras including: Filarmonica Marchigiana, Orchestra Sinfonica Rossini, Eurosinfonietta Wien, Orchestra Olimpia, Wunderkammer Orchestra, Orchestra Corelli, under the baton of conductors such as Yurij Yanko, Yalchin Adigezalov, Orhan Salliel, Franz Shottky, Carlo Tenan, Desar Sulejmani, Octavio J. Peidrò, Vincente Ariño, Daniele Rossi, Francesca Perrotta, Alicia Galli, Noris Borgogelli.

Her interviews and performances have been featured on major national radio and television stations such as Radio 3 Rai(Radio3 Suite, Fahrenheit, Piazza Verdi, Momus, I concerti del Quirinale), Radio2 (Caterpillar), Rai 1-2-3, Sky Arte, AZ TV, and France Musique.
She has recorded works by Danilo Comitini for Stradivarius and Da Vinci record labels.

Since 2023, she has been an artist with Odradek Records, for which she has already released an album dedicated to Wolfgang Rihm, together with Irvine Arditti and Gianluca Pirisi.

Since its foundation in 2018, she has been the Artistic Director of Orchestra Olimpia, an all-female symphonic ensemble committed to music, human rights, and gender equality, with particular attention to promoting the female repertoire. For Orchestra Olimpia, Roberta Pandolfi designs and curates musical and humanitarian projects such as:

– the historic concert “Olimpia meets AYO (Afghan Youth Orchestra)” broadcast on Radio3 Suite; – “Eravamo il Suono,” a concert-show about the women’s orchestra of Auschwitz, inspired by the book by Matteo Corradini;
– the “Concert for Peace” with conductor Yurij Yanko in support of Ukrainian refugees;

– “NO Women NO Music” in collaboration with Radio2 and Fondazione Una Nessuna Centomila, featuring rapper Big Mama and actor Vinicio Marchioni;
– the production of the podcast DiClassica voiced by Valentina Lo Surdo, dedicated to 8 women in music history;

– an interview with U.S. conductor Marin Alsop for the project “Musica, Maestra!”

For her work with Olimpia, she was awarded the Giovanni Santi Prize – Communicators of Values in 2024, a prize given annually for outstanding artistic merit and contributions to social and communication initiatives.

She graduated with honors from the “G. Rossini” Conservatory of Pesaro under Giovanni Valentini, and specialized in the classical-romantic repertoire at the International Piano Academy “Incontri col Maestro” in Imola and the Pinerolo Academy of Music, studying with Enrico Pace and Leonid Margarius.

She obtained a Level II Postgraduate Diploma in Solo Piano Performance in Contemporary Music from the Pinerolo Academy of Music, graduating with highest honors and special mention, under the guidance of Emanuele Arciuli, Nicholas Hodges, Tamara Stefanovich, and Massimiliano Damerini.

She has taken part in numerous masterclasses and received high praise from renowned musicians such as Pavel Gililov, Andrej Jasinski, Leslie Howard, Andrea Bonatta, and Maria Grazia Bellocchio.

She is currently a professor at the “L. Perosi” Conservatory in Campobasso, and is regularly invited to serve on the jury of national competitions.
